Proving it in Piscataway (No. 4 — Rutgers' Joe Roth)

Less than a week remains until the start of Rutgers training camp. This top-25 countdown will run infrequently, documenting who's got the most to prove in 2014.

No. 4 — P Joe Roth (6-foot, 175 pounds)

Why Roth's on the list: Roth is a completely unknown commodity, redshirting last season behind steady punter Nick Marsh.

An uninspiring spring followed. There are few metrics to gauge Roth's performance. The staff's trust is mandatory.

Its evaluations of punters have been mixed. Marsh earned his keep, but Rutgers hasn't trusted a non-transfer punter for a full season since 2009.

During training camp, keep an eye on: Roth's availability.

Head coach Kyle Flood told NJ.com on Monday that Roth is one of few players who might be held back as camp begins. Punting injuries can resurface.

2014 outlook: Rutgers has had a decent eye for punters, but that hasn't come from players it originally recruited.

Any verdict on Roth will have to wait until game tape records.

More from the countdown: No. 3 — Nadir Barnwell
No. 5 — Johnathan Aiken
