Proving it in Piscataway (No. 7 — Rutgers' Quanzell Lambert)

Less than a week remains until the start of Rutgers training camp. This top-25 countdown will run infrequently, documenting who's got the most to prove in 2014.

No. 7 — DE Quanzell Lambert (6-foot-1, 255 pounds)

Why Lambert's on the list: Despite playing in 11 games last year, Lambert — a highly sought-after recruit — remains mostly a mystery.

Lambert (shoulder) sat out most of spring and played primarily on third downs last year, finishing with 19 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

But he has the athleticism and bulk Rutgers desires at the "R" end spot. More important, he won't have to worry about fluctuating weight that followed him for two seasons.

During training camp, keep an eye on: Lambert's role on passing downs.

The "R" end at times drops into pass coverage, but Lambert might be better suited as a pass rusher, depending on the front defensive coordinator Joe Rossi uses on third downs.

2014 outlook: Lambert could be in line for a breakout season.

He will likely play an important role on Rossi's exotic third-down looks and could keep the "R" position — created late in Greg Schiano's regime — around a while longer.

More from the countdown: No. 6 Andre Patton
No. 8 — Kyle Federico
