PISCATAWAY — Gary Nova became Rutgers' all-time leader in touchdown passes Saturday on a 93-yard connection with wideout Andrew Turzilli.
The former record holder, Mike Teel, was sitting next to coordinator Ralph Friedgen in Rutgers' coaches box. Teel, who threw 59 touchdown passes in his career, is now a graduate assistant.
“I think that’s the whole reason records are set, because they’re made to be broken," Teel said before the season. "In a selfish way, I want them to be there forever, but that’s not realistic. That’s not the way it goes. I’m hoping that he does, because if he does that means he’s doing well."
Teel and Nova both played in high school at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey. Nova's first two touchdowns Saturday went to high school teammate, Leonte Carroo, himself climbing Rutgers' record books for all-time receiving scores.
