Rutgers names Gary Nova its starting quarterback

After entering training camp with a monopoly in starts, it took little time for Gary Nova to cement himself as Rutgers' obvious starting quarterback.

Head coach Kyle Flood made the decision official between two-a-day practices Wednesday.

Flood praised Nova's command of new play caller Ralph Friedgen's offense earlier in training camp.

His potential backups, Mike Bimonte and Chris Laviano, have yet to appear in a game. They will vie to back up Nova, a race Flood will want to evaluate quickly.

Nova, who has 28 career starts, will start on his third consecutive opening day Aug. 28 when Rutgers visits Washington State in Seattle.
