Cornerback Gareef Glashen will miss the next two games because of personal reasons, leaving Rutgers with only four scholarship corners with experience this week against SMU.

SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert is ninth in the nation with 338.8 yards per game. Louisville's Teddy Bridgewater, Rutgers' next opponent, ranks 19th.

Two corners in the Scarlet Knights' rotation, Nadir Barnwell and Anthony Cioffi, are true freshman. Another, Lew Toler, is a fifth-year graduate transfer. Ian Thomas played wide receiver a year ago.

Rutgers is 60th nationally in pass efficiency defense. Glashen is the only cornerback on Rutgers' roster that appeared in a game in Piscataway last season.

"I think we're certainly more prepared," head coach Kyle Flood said Monday. "When you play a team like Fresno (in the season opener), Fresno tested us in ways that were very hard to simulate in practice. ... Now we have another opportunity to see where we are. I think this is another hurdle or another point in the season where we can say we've improved. How much we've improved, we won't know until after the game on Saturday."
